Major Rivers in Uttarakhand in Hindi:उत्तराखंड की नदियाँ भारतीय संस्कृति व उत्तराखंड के लोगो के प्रतिदिन के जीवन में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखती है, जिसके किनारे प्रतिदिन कई धार्मिक व सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम होते रहते है। यह राज्य पर्वतों से घिरे होने व कई ऊॅचे हिमनद होने के कारण कई नदियों, तालो व झीलों का भी उदगम स्थल है।
हिमालय को स्वच्छ पानी का सबसे अच्छा स्त्रोत माना जाता है, हिमालय में बर्फ के पिघलने सें कई नदियों व स्त्रोतो का जन्म होता है। यहाँ हिन्दुओं की प्रमुख गंगा और यमुना के अलावा भी कई प्रमुख नदियाँ बहती है।
जहाँ गंगा नदी, यमुना नदी, अलकनंदा नदी, भागीरथी नदी, भिलांगना नदी, घौलीगंगा नदी, गौला नदी, गौरी गंगा नदी, काली नदी, कोसी नदी, मन्दाकिनी नदी, पिंडर नदी, रामगंगा नदी, सरयू नदी, टौंस नदी आदि प्रमुख है।

गंगा नदी: Ganga River: गंगा नदी का उदगम स्थल गोमुख है, जो धार्मिक स्थल गंगोत्री के निकट है। गंगा नदी हिन्दुओ की धार्मिक मान्यताओं से भी जुडी हुई है जिसे यहाँ के लोग गंगा माता कह कर भी पुकारते है। गंगा एक पवित्र नदी होने के कारण लाखो लोगो की पालनहार भी है जो कि हरिद्वार हर–की–पैडी से होकर गुजरती है।
गंगा नदी में स्नान करने हेतु भी स्नानो में लाखो–करोडो लोग हरिद्वार पहुचते है व गंगा नदी में स्नान कर गंगा का पवित्र जल अपने साथ लेकर जाते है। हिन्दु लोग हर पूजा व त्यौहारों पर घर को शुद्ध करने हेतु भी गंगा जल का प्रयोग करते है। यमुना नदी का उदगम स्थल हिमालय क्षेत्र का बन्दरपुंछ ग्लेशियर है। गंगा नदी की लम्बाई 1376 किमी0 है जो उत्तराखण्ड, उत्तरप्रदेश, हरियाणा, व दिल्ली से होती हुई इलाहाबाद मे मिल जाती है।
काली नदी अथवा शारदा नदी: Kali River or Sharda River: काली नदी जो शारदा नदी के नाम से भी जानी जाती है का उद्गम स्थल उत्तराखंड का जनपद पिथौरागढ़ है। यह नदी पिथौरागढ़ स्थित लिपुलेख दर्रे के पास स्थित कालापानी नामक स्थान से निकलती है। काली की सहायक नदियाँ गौरीगंगा, पूर्वी धौलीगंगा, लोहावती व सरयू नदी है। यह नदी जौलजीबी में मिलम ग्लेशियर से निकलने वाली गौरीगंगा से मिल जाती है तथा बरमदेव नामक स्थान पर शारदा नदी के रूप में आगे को चलती है।
अलकनंदा नदी: Alaknanda River: अलकनंदा नदी उत्तराखंड के चमोली नमक जिले से निकलती है। यह नदी चमोली के सतोपंथ ग्लेशियर व सतोपंथ ताल से निकलती है। पहले इसको विष्णु गंगा कहकर पुकारा जाता था परन्तु बाद में इसका नाम बदलकर अलकनंदा कर दिया गया। अलकनंदा की सहायक नदियाँ नंदाकिनी, मन्दाकिनी, कंचनगंगा, सोनधारा, धौलीगंगा, पिंडर, नबालिका तथा लक्ष्मण गंगा है तथा इसकी कुल लम्बाई 195 किमी० है। यह नदी चमोली के केशव प्रयाग में सरस्वती से, विष्णु प्रयाग में विष्णु गंगा से, नंदप्रयाग में नंदाकिनी तथा कर्णप्रयाग में पिंडर है तथा रुद्रप्रयाग में मन्दाकिनी तथा देवप्रयाग में भागीरथी से मिलती है।
यमुना नदी: Yamuna River: यमुना नदी उत्तराखंड के जिला उत्तरकाशी से निकलती है। इसका उद्गम स्थल बन्दरपूँछ पर्वत पर स्थित यमुनोत्री कांठा है। यमुना नदी की राज्य में कुल लम्बाई 136 किमी है। यमुना नदी की सहायक नदियों में टोंस, हनुमान गंगा, ऋषि गंगा, कमलगाड, भद्रीगाढ़ तथा गिरी आदि है, परन्तु इनमे से सबसे प्रमुख टोंस नदी है जो सूपिन नदी और हिमाचल से आने वाली रूपिन नदी से मिलकर बनती है, जिसे तमसा नदी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
भागीरथी नदी: Bhagirathi River: भागीरथी नदी जिला उत्तरकाशी से 19 किमी० दूर गोमुख ग्लेशियर से निकलती है जिसकी कुल लम्बाई 205 किमी है। भागीरथी की सहायक नदियाँ रुद्रगंगा, सियागंगा, भिलंगना, मिळुन गंगा, केदार गंगा, जाह्नवी आदि है। भागीरथी नदी देवप्रयाग में अलकनंदा से मिलती है जो यहाँ से गंगा बनकर आगे को बहती है। नयी टिहरी में भगीरथी नदी, भिलंगना नदी से मिलती है।
कोसी नदी: Kosi River: कोसी नदी कुमाऊं मंडल निकलती है। इसका उद्गम स्थल कौसानी और बिनसर की पहाड़ियाँ है। कोसी की सहायक नदियों में सुमालिगाड, देवगाड, मिनोलगाड आदि है। कोसी नदी की कुल लम्बाई 168 किमी है तथा कुमाऊँ में इस घाटी को धान का कटोरा कहकर भी सम्बोधित किया जाता है।
टोंस नदी: Tons River: टोंस नदी उत्तराखंड में हर की दून की घाटी से निकलती है जिसे तमसा नदी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यह नदी यमुना की एक महत्वपूर्ण सहायक नदी भी है। यह नदी क्रमशः रूपिन नदी व कर्मनाशा नदी अथवा सुपिन नदी से मिलकर बनी है। यह नदी कालसी मे गंगा नदी में मिल जाती है तथा गंगा नदी के रूप में आगे को बढ़ती है। टोंस और यमुना नदी के बीच का संपूर्ण हिस्सा महाभारत काल के दौरान हुई घटनाओ का साक्षी रह चुका है।
सरयू नदी: Saryu River: सरयू नदी का उद्गम स्थल हिमालय है, जहाँ से यह निकलकर उत्तर भारत में बहती है। सरयू नदी को काली व शारदा नदी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। ये नदी भारत और नेपाल के बीच बहकर सीमा रेखा बनती है। सरयू नदी की सहायक नदी राप्ती है, जो उत्तर प्रदेश के देवरिया जिले में मिलती है। यह एक वैदिक कालीन नदी है जिसका उल्लेख धार्मिक ग्रन्थ ऋग्वेद में भी मिलता है।
पिंडारी नदी: Pindari River: पिंडारी नदी का उद्गम स्थल उत्तराखंड स्थित कुमाऊँ मंडल है। यह नदी कुमाऊँ के बागेश्वर जनपद के नंदा देवी शिखर के पास पिंडारी नामक ग्लेशियर से निकली है। यह अलकनंदा की एक सहायक नदी है जो गढ़वाल के कर्णप्रयाग में आकर अलकनंदा नदी से मिलकर खत्म होती है तथा यहाँ से इसका नया नाम अलकनंदा पड़ जाता है। बाद में अलकनंदा और भागीरथी मिलकर गंगा नदी के रूप में आगे को बढ़ती है। यह नदी लगभग 105 किमी० लम्बी दूरी तय करती है।
गोला नदी: Gola River: गोला नदी उत्तराखंड के कुमाऊँ मंडल से निकलती है जो लगभग 500 किमी की दूरी तय करती है तथा उत्तराखंड राज्य के अंदर लगभग 105 किमी बहती है। इसका उद्गम स्थान भीड़ापानी, शहर-फाटक, की पर्वतमालाओं के जलस्त्रोतों से होता है उसके बाद सातताल व भीमताल नाम की झीलों के स्त्रोतों से निकली छोटी नदियों के पानी से मिलकर ये काफी बड़ी नदी बन जाती है। ये नदी नैनीताल और उधमसिंह नगर में बहने के बाद उत्तर प्रदेश के बरेली से 15 किमी आगे रामगंगा नदी में मिल जाती है।
